HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a one year absence, the Kansas State Fair is set to kick off in just under four months. The fair board met on Tuesday to discuss various items and tour the facilities. Interim GM Ed Berger says he expects the fair to rebound from its one year hiatus.
“I just think we’re going to have one of the biggest and best fairs ever,” Berger said. “There’s a lot of interest in the grandstand shows and ticket sales are going extremely well.”
During the pandemic, which forced cancellation of last year's fair, many staff and employees were furloughed. Berger says they are also working to get the fairs staff up to full strength.
“We are getting back to full strength,” Burger said. “ We’re still very thin but we’re making things happen and we’ve got a great staff and they’re dedicated to making the fair successful.”
During a meeting and retreat on Tuesday, the fair board took a tour of the facilities and talked about needed repairs and improvements. One of the major projects is renovating the Expo Building. Berger says that work will start in the fall following the Kansas Junior Livestock Show. Plans are also being made to make needed repairs to the horse barn roof.
The 2021 Kansas State Fair kicks off September 10th.
