HUTCHINSON, Kan. — If a little dirt never hurt anyone, then neither will a whole lot of mud. It is not too late to register online for the Muddy Hutch 5K and Lil Mudder 3K taking place on April 29 in Hutchinson at the Fun Valley Sports Complex.
The event is hosted by the Hutchinson Recreation Commission (Hutch Rec), and this is their fifth year holding it.
“The purpose of Muddy Hutch is just to kind of get the community in a healthy, active space that provides healthy activities for the community to participate in,” Loribeth Reynolds, Hutch Rec Marketing Manager, said. “Who doesn't like to get muddy? It's just a lot of fun.”
In the Muddy Hutch 5K, participants can test their ability to run, climb, jump, and crawl over 30 obstacles across Fun Valley Sports Complex.
Additionally, kids, 12 and under, will enjoy the smaller version of the Muddy Hutch 5K, the Lil Mudder 3K. They can race for their best time through over 20 obstacles across Fun Valley Sports Complex.
Participants of both races will be officially chip-timed. Runners will receive a race shirt and a beverage and snack at the finish line.
"We'll have the fire department out there hosing you down as you get across the finish line," Reynolds said.
An awards ceremony will follow. Awards will be handed out to the male and female divisions, as well as to the youth division.
Registering online will cost a lower price. Registration will continue until the day of events.
The online registration fee for the Muddy Hutch 5K is $50. It will increase to $75 April 28 and 29.
The online registration fee is $35 for the Lil Mudder 3K. The price goes up to $50 on April 28 and April 29.
Final registration and check in for the adults Muddy Hutch 5K will start at 9 a.m., with the first wave of participants starting at 10:30 a.m. Waves of 15 participants will go off every three to five minutes.
Final registration and check in for the youths Lil Mudder 3K will start at 8 a.m., with the first wave of participants starting at 9 a.m. Waves of 15 participants will go off every 3 to 5 minutes.
Racers are recommended to dress in proper racing attire like a pair of athletic shorts, a t-shirt, and running shoes, as well as to tie long hair back.
