Lawrence Robert Steele, 80, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on March 29th, 2024 in Colorado Springs.
He was born on February 1st, 1944 to Mary Agnes and Robert Vernon Steele in Salina Kansas. Larry went to high school at Hutchinson High School. He went on to Hutchinson Junior College, and then Kansas State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He worked as an Electrical Engineer for 45 years, beginning in the aviation industry with Beech Aircraft and Learjet in Wichita and finishing in the space industry at Allied Signal on Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs. He worked on numerous projects over the years. Some noteworthy projects include in-cabin instrumentation for John Denver’s Custom Learjet, extensive work in the Arctic Circle for national defense, and the establishment of what is now Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado.
Larry enjoyed numerous hobbies, including amateur radio and motorsports.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sons Matt and Jason (Chicago); and his grandchildren Felicia, Cassidy, Cohen, Anders, and Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Steele of Olympia, Washington.
