The City of South Hutchinson is asking residents to help shape the future of transportation safety by participating in a new Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant-funded study aimed at reducing crashes and preventing serious injuries.
The project will develop a comprehensive Safety Action Plan using a Safe Systems Approach, a strategy that focuses on designing roads and transportation networks so that human mistakes are less likely to result in severe crashes or fatalities.
City officials are encouraging residents to share their firsthand experiences with dangerous intersections, near crashes, and other traffic safety concerns involving driving, walking, bicycling, or other forms of travel.
Community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback during Freedom Fest by visiting the JEO Consulting tent. An interactive display and map will allow participants to pinpoint locations where they have experienced unsafe conditions or close calls.
Information gathered from residents will help identify areas most in need of safety improvements and will directly influence South Hutchinson's Safety Action Plan.
The study is funded through the federal Safe Streets for All program, which supports local efforts to improve roadway safety and reduce traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.
City leaders say community participation is essential to ensuring the plan reflects the experiences and needs of those who use South Hutchinson's streets every day. Residents are encouraged to stop by the display during Freedom Fest and share their input.
