
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team cruised past the Northwest Tech Mavericks 115-74 on Saturday afternoon in the Sports Arena.
Hutchinson (17-11, 11-11 KJCCC) built up a 64-27 halftime lead and put the game on cruise control thereafter. The Blue Dragons knocked down 74 percent of their shots in the first half going 25-of-34, nine of those were three-pointers.
The Blue Dragons cooled off a little in the second half, but still shot 55 percent (17-of-31) and knocked down five more from behind the arc.
NW Tech (10-17, 5-16) shot just 37 percent (10-of-27) in the first half, before going 19-of-36 in the second half.
Hutchinson tied its season-high with 33 assists in the game, doing so on 42 shots made. The Blue Dragons knocked down 42-of-65 for a season-high 64 percent shooting.
Kieran Carr led the way for Hutchinson with 24 points on 11-of-12 from the field. The Blue Dragons had nearly everyone contribute in the game, getting points from 11 of the 12 players that saw action. Youssouf Timera scored a team-high 16 points for the Mavericks.
The Blue Dragons will travel to Liberal on Wednesday to face the Seward County Saints. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. from the Green House.
