Barbara Jean (Hughes) Clendening, 80, formerly of Hutchinson, died March 29, 2025, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born October 4, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Emmett W. and Sarah (Gibson) Hughes.
Barbara graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962, and received her associates degree from Hutchinson Community Junior College. She worked at the Dillons Corporate Office, Hutchinson Floral, and sold Mary Kay. Barbara retired from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center as an administrative assistant, after 19.5 years of service. She enjoyed singing, being active in her church, playing golf and working on crafts, especially tole painting. Barbara attended First Church of God and then Union Valley Bible Church, both of Hutchinson.
Barbara is survived by: her son, Dar Holden (Kay); brother, Jack E. Hughes, all of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Ted Crank of Tennessee; and two nephews and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Michael Hughes and his wife, Lisa; and a sister, Jill Crank.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
