Angry Dawgs: No. 3 Georgia beats No. 2 Michigan 34-11 in CFP

By RALPH D. RUSSO AP College Football Writer

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Stetson Bennett threw two touchdown passes, Nakobe Dean led an angry Georgia defense and the third-ranked Bulldogs returned to their dominant ways, beating No. 2 Michigan 34-11 in the Orange Bowl to advance to the College Football Playoff championship. Georgia earned a rematch with Southeastern Conference nemesis Alabama in the title game on Jan. 10 in Indianapolis. It was a little less than a month ago the Crimson Tide handed the Bulldogs their only setback of the season. If there was any question about whether the damage from that humbling 41-24 loss would linger, the Bulldogs answered them quickly. Georgia became the first team in the eight-year history of the CFP to score on each of its first five possessions and led 27-3 at halftime.

Run Tide! No. 1 Bama over non-P5 Cincy 27-6 in CFP semi

By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Top-ranked Alabama is headed to another national championship game. Brian Robinson ran for a career-high 204 yards, Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young threw three touchdowns and the defending Crimson Tide beat Cincinnati 27-6 in the CFP semifinal Cotton Bowl. The Bearcats had been undefeated and were the first non-Power Five team to make the four-team College Football Playoff. Alabama has won its last six semifinal games.  The Tide have missed the four-team playoff only once in the eight seasons of the CFP and have won three national titles in that span. They play Georgia in the national title game Jan. 10 in Indianapolis.

Central Michigan beats Washington State 24-21 in Sun Bowl

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Lew Nichols III ran for 130 yards and a touchdown, leading late replacement Central Michigan to a 24-21 victory over Washington State in the Sun Bowl. The Chippewas (9-4) ended a five-game bowl losing streak with their fifth consecutive victory this season. When Boise State opted out of the Arizona Bowl because of COVID-19 issues, Central Michigan but switched about 300 miles east from Tucson, Arizona to El Paso, Texas. Miami skipped the Sun Bowl for COVID-19 reasons. Washington State couldn't get its offense going in the first half, finishing with just 53 yards and trailing 21-0 at the break.

Hartman leads No. 20 Wake Forest to 38-10 romp in Gator Bowl

By MARK LONG AP Sports Writer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Sam Hartman tossed three touchdown passes, two of them to tight end Brandon Chapman, and No. 20 Wake Forest dominated Rutgers 38-10 in the Gator Bowl. Hartman completed 23 of 39 passes for 304 yards. He added 21 more yards rushing and pushed his touchdown total to 50 this season — 39 passing and 11 rushing. The Demon Deacons scored on their first three drives and opened up a double-digit lead just before halftime. It played out about as expected given heavy underdog Rutgers was a late replacement for 23rd-ranked Texas A&M.
