HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council and Reno County commissioners will hold a joint special meeting Tuesday to discuss a major funding request from Rural Fire District 2 and the Hutchinson Fire Department.
HFD Chief Steve Beer was before the council on March 15 asking for more than $800,000 in COVID recovery funds to purchase new brush vehicles, upgrade existing trucks and purchase and replace equipment that was recently lost in the Cottonwood Complex fire.
The council is wanting the county to help with these purchases since Fire District 2 does make up the northeast part of the county. That meeting is set for 1 p.m. at the Reno County Annex.
Later that evening, the city council will then meet in special session to further discuss and take possible action on Beer's request to purchase the equipment using the ARPA money. That meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson city offices.
