Michael “Hondo” Heidebrecht, 65, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 surrounded by his family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. He was born January 28, 1958, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Alva and Glenda (Rapp) Heidebrecht.
Hondo graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1976. On July 1, 1988, he married Jeanette Cole in Hutchinson. Hondo worked for Morton Salt in maintenance and retired after 42 years. Hondo had a love for playing softball and basketball. Once he was no longer able to play softball or basketball, he found that he enjoyed golfing.
Hondo is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Maria Leann Diehl.
He is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Jeanette; daughters, Lynette Ojeda and Vicky (Donovan Reta) Diehl; seven grandchildren, Victor Ojeda, Alex Ojeda, Jess Reta, Donovan Reta Jr., Cpl. Nathaniel Booker, Seaman Elena Reta; and Cpl. Jewel Reta; and five great grandchildren, Alex Ojeda Jr., Evelyn Ojeda, Zoie Reta, Ivy Reta and Finley Reta.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. Memorial donations may be made to Hutchinson Animal Shelter and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
