HUTCHINSON, Kan — The Planning Commission hosted a public hearing Tuesday night for the Downtown Hutch Master Plan.
Laura Meyer Dick, who purchased the Landmark Hotel downtown with her husband Michael Dick, has played an integral role in the master plan.
"We are very excited about the plan, and buying the Landmark wasn't a part of the plan, but somebody challenged me if we just fix that up it'll turn around downtown so that's why I got motivated and went and bought it," Meyer Dick said. "So hopefully the Landmark is going to help spur a lot of the things we are going to do in the plans."
Planning staff recommended to the planning commission that "based upon information prior to the public hearings, planning staff recommend that the request for approval of the Downtown Hutch Master Plan be approved." The approval passed unanimously.
The planning commission's approval for the Downtown Hutch Master Plan is the first step in the process for it to go into effect. The next step is for the city council to consider the plan which will take place on Tuesday, June 18.
The Downtown Hutch Master Plan is designed to guide growth and development to downtown hutch. More information is available at downtownmasterplan.com.
