Alta Hickok |1930-2023|

Alta Hickok, 93, went home to be with Jesus on October 27, 2023.  She was born in Medford, Oklahoma to Willard and Leona (Robertson) Somers on May 1, 1930. 

She attended a one room schoolhouse North of Medford, and later graduated high school from Gore Consolidated. After graduation, she worked at a restaurant in Pond Creek, Oklahoma where she met her future husband, Emmett. 

She spent many years as a homemaker and caring for young children at her church (FUMC VC) and other churches and families. She loved the little ones. 

Alta enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church, family vacations, traveling with her church bus trips and reading. She was very loved by her family and friends for her warmth, love, kindness and wit. She was married to her beloved husband, Emmett, for 65 years. They had three children: Emmett (Gene), Janice (Jan) and Sharon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Leona; her siblings, William, Thelma, Marie, Homer and Glover; her husband, Emmett; her son, Gene, and daughter, Jan.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Joe) Bishop of Wichita, KS; her grandchildren, Kim Hugle of New Orleans, LA, Melissa (Ronnie) Williams of New Orleans, LA, Jason Hickok of Aurora, CO, and Jamie (Andrew) Leopold of Shawnee, KS; her great grandchildren, Sienna Leopold, Jonathan Hugle and Emmett Leopold; her brother, Frank (Jean) Somers of Waynesville, MO and many nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 4th at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, Kansas. Lunch will follow at Calvary Chapel West Wichita at 1:30 pm.
