MBB: No. 21 Dragons catch fire from deep, easily advance in Region VI playoffs

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 21 Hutchinson (24-7) caught fire from three Tuesday night against Pratt (15-17) and never looked back. 

The Beavers took a three-point lead just four minutes into the contest before the Dragons started raining threes. 

Hutchinson hit 11 triples in the first half and built a 61-32 advantage at the break.

The Dragons shot 61.1% from deep in the first half and 56.4% overall.

Four Dragons (Kobe Campbell, Angelo Stuart, Jayden Garrison and Josiah Harris) each made two three-pointers by halftime. Three other Dragons (Jacquez Yow, Kaimen Lennox and Cecil Lee) each added one. 

Hutchinson made 14 triples for the game, which tied the season high for the third time. Fourteen triples also tied the program record for a single game. 

Meanwhile, Pratt made just 1 of 11 from three in the first half and 7 of 22 for the game. 

Pratt actually outscored Hutchinson by one in the second half, but the damage was already done.

Six Dragons scored in double digits. Angelo Stuart led the charge with 20 points.

Jayden Garrison hit 4 of 6 threes and finished with a career-high 18 points. 

Kobe Campbell scored 16 points, Kaimen Lennox 15, Cecil Lee 12 and Nate Goodlow 10.

Harris just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. 

The Dragons shot 53.2% for the game and made 14 of 29 threes. 

Pratt shot 40.3% for the game. The Beavers were led by D.J. Bailey's 16 points. 

Hutchinson scored 27 points off 18 Pratt turnovers. The Dragons turned the ball over only 11 times. 

Hutchinson got 62 bench points. 

The Dragons advance to Friday's Region VI semifinal at 7 p.m. against Butler in Salina.
