SEWARD COUNTY—Law enforcement and schools district officials across Kansas continue to investigate alleged threats of violence.

On Wednesday, the Liberal Police Department were made aware of several threats concerning potential school shootings circulating on social media, according to a media release.

Police in Dodge City and Garden City, along with other Kansas and Colorado agencies, also have also fielded similar calls. It is unknown where these messages are originating, according to the Liberal Police Department.

On Wednesday evening, the Newton Police Department reported they  confirmed the possible school threat was a social media post from out of the state, and did not involve schools in Newton and there was no direct threat towards USD 373.

As a precautionary measure, police are increasing patrols around schools in southwest Kansas to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and community.  Police encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity  immediately.
