HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas State Department of Education has recognized Hutchinson Public Schools with multiple awards based on quantitative and qualitative measures of student success in the district.

USD 308 has earned the Silver Star Award in Social-Emotional Growth. This focus area is based on structures and qualitative measures and has improved from the Copper Award in 2022. The Silver Star Recognition distinguishes the district’s work in achieving student development in social, emotional, and character competencies that promote learning and success in life.

The district achieved the Bronze Star Award in Individual Plan of Study and Kindergarten Readiness for 2023. The Individual Plan of Study focus area recognizes school districts that offer quality and inclusive opportunities for each student to experience connected learning which develops academic knowledge, as well as technical and employability skills.

2023 saw the District’s first attempt at Star Recognition in Kindergarten Readiness. This area of focus recognizes communities that offer quality, inclusive opportunities to young children and their families so that each student enters kindergarten at age 5 socially, emotionally and academically prepared for success.

“We take pride in this achievement, which reflects our team’s dedication and hard work in ensuring student success. We are preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s world,” said Dr. Dawn Johnson, USD 308 Superintendent.

The Kansas Star Recognition Program seeks to provide Kansas districts an opportunity to validate the coherent, rigorous and sustained commitment required to improve adult and student outcomes.

“This recognition should be celebrated throughout your district and be used to help guide your strategic focus in the coming year. Congratulations to everyone at Hutchinson Public Schools for their exceptional work!” said Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson.
