Marvin Ray Estabrook  |1945-2022|

Marvin Ray Estabrook, 77, of Sterling, passed away October 5, 2022, at his home. He was born April 5, 1945, in Sterling, the son of John L. and Hazel D. Cruth Estabrook.

Marvin was a longtime Rice County resident, graduating from Sterling High School with the class of 1964. Marvin retired from Lyons Salt Company in 2016 after working for the company for 40 years. In his early years, he worked for Snodderley Lumber Company in Clearmont, Missouri and Eaton Transmission Department in Shanendoah, IA.

He served in the United States Army as a military police officer, finishing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in 1965 before serving in Vietnam, after which he was honorably discharged at West Point, NY in 1968. Serving in the Hutchinson Army National Guard, as well as attending Calvary Baptist Church in Sterling. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post #128 and Lyons VFW.

Marvin enjoyed watching sports, playing softball, basketball and co-ed volleyball, and most of all spending time with his family. On November 22, 1969, Marvin was united in marriage with Cheryl Kelley in Clearmont, Missouri.

Cheryl resides at home. He is also survived by daughter, Andrea Higgins and husband Jake of Lyons; his son, Steven Estabrook and wife Aubrey of Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Kai and Adeline Estabrook; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil Estabrook; and sister, Darlene Young.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2022, at the Sterling Community Cemetery, with Pastor Dale Jordan officiating. Military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard and the Sterling American Legion Post #128. Lunch will be served at Calvary Baptist Church after services.
