HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Lacy Stauffacher with Interfaith Housing explained that if you are looking to donate to a non-profit for tax reduction purposes before the end of the year, Interfaith is part of a program that could give you more bang for your buck.

"They do have to specify that they are wanting their donation to be a tax credit," Stauffacher said. "The minimum donation for a tax credit is $250. We have available $159,000 currently."

This is a 75% tax credit on your Kansas income tax bill.

"For every $1000 you donate, the state of Kansas is deducting $750," Stauffacher said. "That's the 75% tax credit, from your Kansas income tax obligation for 2023. If you overpay your income tax obligation, any excess of this credit will be refunded by the state of Kansas to the individual. The entire amount of the donation can be deducted as a charitable contribution on your federal tax return."

If you want to donate between now and the end of the year, it's simple to do.

"You can call my direct line at (620) 259-9919," Stauffacher said. "The check has to be dated by Dec. 31."

Interfaith is part of the Kansas Department of Commerce's Individual Development Account Tax Credit program.
