Heelo Inc. Juneteenth celebration scheduled

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — HEELO Inc.’s 2023 Juneteenth Celebration will run from Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18, and there will be plenty of activities that weekend.  

On Friday, the Juneteenth Blood Drive will take place at the Stringer Fine Arts Center on 600 E. 11th Ave. at Hutchinson Community College. The blood drive will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.  

Then on Saturday, June 17, Hutchinson Mayor Jon Richardson will read the 2023 Juneteenth Proclamation at the Stringer Fine Arts Center, following a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  

After the proclamation, the Juneteenth 3-Point Shoot Out and three-on-three Basketball Tournament will take place at the Journey Mennonite Church.  

Free registration will start at 10:30 a.m., and the tournament will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded.  

Journey Mennonite Church is located at 808 S. Poplar St. in South Hutchinson.  

The Juneteenth Celebration will continue Sunday with a Motorcycle Ride that will start at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel and Crematory is located at 300 E. 30th Ave.  

The lineup will start at 10:30 a.m., and the destination will be the Home Builder Shelter at Carey Park located at 2 Emerson Loop.

Shortly after the motorcyles arrive at Carey Park, people can enjoy the Juneteenth Community Picnic.  

The theme is “Family Reunion.” People are invited to wear their favorite family reunion-themed shirts.  

There will be kid and family friendly activities, vendors, free food, and live music provided by Hutch Clique. There will also be a domino and spades table.  

Additionally, the Salt City Cruisers Car Club will host a car show.  

The Juneteenth Community Picnic will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
