Jackie Lee Canning, 80, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. He was born October 5, 1943, in Kansas City, MO to Francis Owen and Alma Mae (Dobbins) Canning and was lovingly adopted from the heart into the George and Dorothy Koon family.

Jack received his Associate’s Degree from Hutchinson Community College and went on to McPherson College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. On July 22, 1967, Jack married Sharon McLaughlin in Hutchinson, KS. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. In his spare time, you would find him enjoying a good baseball or football game. Jack was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Jack and Sharon were longtime residents of the Yankee Run Kanopolis family.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Alma and adopted parents, George and Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Bill May.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Eric Canning and Anthony Canning both of Hutchinson, KS; granddaughter, Bailey Canning, of Wichita, KS; brother, Jim (Teri) Koon of Nickerson, KS; sisters, Carol May and Kathy (Gary) Phleger, both of Hutchinson, KS; nephews, Jeff (Charity) May, Mike (Gina) May both of Elizabethtown, KY, and Eddie (Betsy) Koon, of Nickerson, KS; niece, Tina (Jon Rankin) Koon of Hutchinson, KS; great nephews, Wade Koon, Garrett Koon both of Nickerson, KS, Tyler May, Cody May, Austin May, Christian May all from Elizabethtown, KY, and Jackson Koon of Hutchinson, KS; and brother-in-law, Terry McLaughlin of Hutchinson, KS.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Reno County Food Bank or Christian Soup Ministries and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
