HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Today is the service for the Nickerson teacher and coach killed in an accident in Louisville, Kentucky in July.
According to his obituary from Elliott Mortuary, the service for Trey Jones will be at 11 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene at 4290 North Monroe in Hutchinson.
Jones, his wife Amy, and daughter Ava, along with the family’s youngest child were all hit by a motorist who drove up onto the sidewalk in the downtown area of Louisville while the Jones family was in Louisville for an AAU basketball tournament.
Ava Jones had signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Iowa that was announced a few days before the accident.
The suspect, 33-year-old Michael Hurley of Lexington, Indiana, has been indicted by a grand jury in the case. Hurley admitted to police that he had just taken Oxycodone before the accident and failed a field test for narcotics at the scene.
