HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Gas prices are continuing upward this week.
"National gas price averages have been cheaper year over year for about the last 11 months," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "That changed this week as Kansas average price at the pump, which is today at $2.22 a gallon, is now three cents higher than we were one year ago. Today's national average $2.45 a gallon is the same as it was a year ago."
Reno County is also on the upward side.
"Reno County is actually one cent higher than the statewide average at $2.23 a gallon," Steward said.
This isn't normal for this time of year.
"The cause of gas price increases has been high crude oil prices," Steward said. "We've been seeing kind of our regular seasonal factors, such as lower demand and an increase in supply in the market, but with higher crude oil prices have been enough to buck that normal seasonal trend."
Steward does not see prices dropping anytime soon.
