NEWTON, Kan. — Work will begin around Monday, Oct. 9, to repair a reinforced box culvert at a U.S. 50 entrance ramp on the northeast side of Newton.

The ramp is at the north junction of I-135/U.S. 50 and handles Sand Creek drainage.

The Kansas Department of Transportation project is expected to be completed around Nov. 13.

During the work, for all but local traffic, traffic will be controlled by intermittent closure of eastbound Old Trail Road at the intersection with Spencer Road. Tractor-trailers on Old Trail Road that are headed toward eastbound U.S. 50 will be re-routed to the I-135/U.S. 50 interchange. Non-local passenger vehicles on Old Trail Road that are headed toward eastbound U.S. 50 will be re-routed to Northeast 24th Street.  Eastbound Old Trail Road will be returned to normal traffic flow and reopened to unrestricted traffic at the end of each work day.

Reece Construction Co. Inc., of Salina, is the primary contractor for the $151,919 project.
