
Arylis Laveta Phillips, 91, of McPherson, KS, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024 at The Cedars.
Arylis was born in Pittsburg, Texas on January 18, 1932, daughter of Alva LeRoy Taylor and Alma Lee (Poe) Taylor-Briley.
Arylis attended Newton, Little River, and Canton schools and she graduated from Canton High School in 1950. She later attended and graduated from Beauty School in Salina, Kansas.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in McPherson. Arylis was a homemaker and worked for Beau Mart Beauty Salon as a beautician. She enjoyed caregiving, quilting, gardening, cooking, loved being a wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arylis married Gail Edward Phillips on August 4, 1950 at Canton Methodist Church. The young couple established their first home together in Canton. They then moved to Gypsum, KS and because of Gail's work in the oil field, the family moved throughout Kansas and Colorado.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Urioste of McPherson; her siblings, Quincy Taylor of McPherson, Mary Simmons of Burbank, Oklahoma, and Juanita Hanson of McPherson; grandchildren, Chad Caroll (Jodie) and Brandi Martinez-McWilliams(Robert); great grandchildren, Camryn Carroll, Caitlyn Carroll, Brady McWilliams, Jadeyn McWilliams and Jocelyn McWilliams.
Arylis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gail Phillips; her sons, Jon Phillips and William Gary Phillips; her brothers, Ancil Taylor and Perry Taylor; and her sister Marjorie Florine.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, with Reverend Emily Cannon officiating. Live streaming will be available at mcphersonfumc.com/worship.
Private family burial will be held at Crestwood Memorial Park Cemetery, rural McPherson.
