Philip W. Young, 84, of Hutchinson, died August 20, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Estel and Melba (Warren) Young.
Philip graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958, and graduated in 1962 from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in business. He spent many years working for General Motors in their human resources department. Philip loved spending time fishing and painting. He was able to fix anything that was broken and Philip enjoyed working on projects. He was a car enthusiast and a founder of the Radicals Car Club.
He was devoted member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.
In 1964, Philip married Freda Pfannestiel. They shared 52 years of marriage before her death on September 3, 2016.
Philip is survived by: daughters, Sandra Johann of Independence, MO, Cindy (Chuck) LoPorto of Blue Springs, MO, Christine Robinson of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Scott (Margie) Young of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carrie Turner (Mark Nicholas) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sal (Gina) LoPorto of Riverside, MO, Mike (Kim) LoPorto of Emporia, Christopher (Katherine) LoPorto of Lee’s Summit, MO, Ashley Johann of Independence, MO, Stephen (Shelby) Johann of Independence, MO; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Freda Young.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024 at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson with celebrant, Father Matthew Marney. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until mass begins on August 30, at the church.
