HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two area lakes are feeling the effects of blue-green algae very early this summer season. Both Marion County Lake and Marion Reservoir are under algae advisories.
Marion Lake is under a watch, which means you can do some water activities, but must use caution. Swimming and water skiing are discouraged. The reservoir is under a warning, which means all contact with the water should be avoided. All livestock and pets should be kept away from the water.
Visitors may fish at the lakes, but only the fillet portion should be consumed. The KDHE issues the algae advisories every Thursday during the summer months.
