ST. JOHN, Kan. — According to a Friday Facebook post, Edwards County Medical Center and Clinics has made the difficult decision to close St. John Medical Clinic, effective Monday, April 29, 2024.
The Edwards County Medical Center Admin team, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, came to this decision due to various factors including low volumes, challenges with payors, rising costs of supplies and staffing. They hope to assist in recruiting another clinic to open.
CEO Jimmie Hansel stated, "We have enjoyed working in the St. John area. This was a difficult decision to make, and we hope to continue to serve the St. John community and surrounding areas from our Midway Clinic location in Kinsley."
To ease the transition, patients can see their current St. John Medical Clinic providers and staff from Midway Clinic. Current and previous patients will be receiving a letter from Edwards County Medical Center with more information.
“It has been a privilege to serve the St. John community, however it was not cost effective for us to continue to do so. Thank you to the patients who came to St. John Medical Clinic for their health needs,” said Pam Wetzel, Edwards County Medical Center Board Chair.
Medical records will remain in their system, providing easy access for patients who are seen at Midway Clinic. Patient records can be requested as needed by calling Midway Clinic at 620-659-2732.
The Stafford County Health Department reminds St. John residents that there are still resources in Stafford County for medical care if it is difficult to get transportation out of county. The health department offers lab services, with or without a doctor’s order, and provides immunizations.
Stafford County Hospital is available in Stafford for lab, X-Ray, physical therapy, and ER. Heart of Kansas is available in Stafford for medical care as well.
