HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A longtime community leader known for feeding those in need will soon be able to continue her work, thanks to an outpouring of local support.
A fundraising campaign launched to help Stanley Murdock, who has operated the Christian Soup Ministry in Hutchinson for more than three decades, has surpassed its goal of $16,000 to install a chair lift at the facility.

Murdock, a familiar face to many in the community, has spent 33 years running the soup kitchen, providing meals and support to those in need. In recent months, mobility challenges made it difficult for her — and several volunteers — to safely navigate stairs inside the building, raising concerns about the future of the ministry.
Rev. Christy Kass, pastor at First Presbyterian Church, organized the fundraiser after learning of the need. She said the chair lift would allow Murdock to continue her work and help ensure the ministry remains accessible for volunteers.
The campaign quickly gained traction, drawing support from neighbors, church members and community donors both locally and online. Contributions ultimately pushed the total past the $16,000 mark needed for installation.
Supporters say the successful effort reflects the impact Murdock has had on Hutchinson over the years — and the community’s commitment to supporting a service that has helped countless residents.
With funding now secured, plans can move forward to install the chair lift, allowing Murdock to continue leading the ministry she has built and sustained for more than three decades.
