Cloyd Leroy Thomas |1940-2023|

Cloyd Leroy Thomas, 82, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Ascension via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born April 23, 1940 in Elida, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Nina (Turner) Thomas.

He graduated from high school in Salem, Illinois. Cloyd later attended college at Bethel College in North Newton and Wichita State University.

Cloyd worked as a tool and die maker for Hesston Corporation for many years. He later worked for Aero Machine, which later became Thayer Aerospace in Wichita, where he worked for 18 years until he retired in 2006.

He was a member of the Newton Church of the Brethren, where he served various roles such as, Deacon, Lay Leader, pulpit supply, and making bulletins. Cloyd was instrumental in starting the community garden, where he and Carol would enjoy gardening together.

He was united in marriage to Carol Goering on June 21, 1964 at Eden Mennonite Church in rural Moundridge. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his three children, Marcia (Dale) Weishaar and their son, Wesley Weishaar; Lee Thomas and his sons, Maxwell and Jackson Thomas; and Russel (Christina) Thomas and their son, Owen Thomas; brother, Robert (Sharon) Thomas; and two sisters, Carol (Jerry) Norton, and Mary (Ted) Deneen.
Cloyd was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Susan Dunlap; brother, Edwin Thomas; and infant sister, Roseann Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Newton Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Hopefield Cemetery, rural Moundridge. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 17, at Moundridge Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Newton Church of the Brethren or Heifer Project International in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
