A leader in the U.S. wheat industry is pointing to expanding global demand and strengthened trade relationships following a recent agricultural trade mission to Vietnam led by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The delegation, part of the Trade Reciprocity for U.S. Manufacturers and Producers (TRUMP) Mission to Vietnam, brought together industry representatives and government officials to enhance trade ties and improve market access for American agricultural products.
Among those participating was Mike Spier, CEO of U.S. Wheat Associates, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong international presence for U.S. wheat producers.

“Engagement like this supports increased export demand and improved returns for U.S. wheat farmers,” Spier said.
Vietnam has become an increasingly important market for American wheat, with purchases reaching approximately 586,000 metric tons during the 2025–2026 marketing year — a 3% increase compared to the previous year.
Industry leaders say that growth is being driven in part by Vietnam’s expanding middle class and shifting consumer preferences. Increased demand for baked goods, noodles, and other processed foods has fueled a steady rise in wheat consumption across the Southeast Asian nation.
Officials involved in the mission noted that continued collaboration with Vietnamese partners will be essential to sustaining that growth. They also stressed the importance of trade promotion efforts and relationship-building to ensure U.S. wheat remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
The mission underscores broader efforts by U.S. agricultural leaders to diversify export markets and capitalize on rising demand in developing economies, particularly in Southeast Asia.
