
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Police are investigating a shooting where a pregnant woman lost the baby and have made an arrest.
According to Hutchinson Police Lt. Dustin Loepp, Friday, November 4th at 2:40 a.m., Hutchinson Police were sent to a residence in the 500 block of East Avenue B in reference to an accidental shooting.
A 30-year-old pregnant woman was wounded in her side. The woman was taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment. As police investigated, they learned that 23-year-old River Stokely of Hutchinson was investigating a noise near the front of his residence while armed.
When he turned back into the residence, the gun was fired and the woman was wounded. The baby was pronounced dead on November 8.
On Thursday, Stokely was arrested for involuntary manslaughter. Stokely is being held at the Reno County Correctional Facility with a $10,000 bond.
The female with the gunshot wound was treated and released from the hospital and is in stable condition.
All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
This case is still under investigation, and this is all the information that is being released at this time.
