
Lawrence Duncan “Larry” DeCou, 83, died July 19, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born July 15, 1940, in Lindsborg, to Donald Frank and Marguerite (Meyer) DeCou.
Larry graduated from Manhattan High School in 1958 and Kansas State University in 1962. For 13 years, he taught woodworking at Central Junior High School before embarking on a new career as a manager at Kightlinger Lumber and later in sales for Star Lumber. Larry enjoyed antique cars, collecting clocks, and woodworking. He designed and constructed most of the furniture in his home. For 60 years, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
On July 27, 1963, he married Karen Sue Jester, in Manhattan.
Larry is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Karen; son, Mark DeCou; daughters, Lori Bryan (Darrell) and Mindy Hayes (Eric); grandchildren, Rachel DeCou, Riley DeCou, Zachery Bryan, Abigail Bryan, Gwyneth Hayes, and Barrett Hayes; and great-grandson, Derek.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Donald Frank DeCou, Jr., and Robert Duane DeCou; and daughter-in-law, Shelli Ann DeCou.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson City Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.
