Fannie Mae Bontrager, 86, of Hutchinson, went home to be with the Lord April 6, 2024, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS. She was born October 8, 1937 in Hutchinson, KS to Dick A. and Lizzie (Yutzy) Kaufman.

Fannie Mae grew up on the family farm where she actively helped her parents in all the aspects of farm life.  She graduated from Central Christian High School, Hutchinson, in 1955.  On August 24, 1958, she married Maynard A. Bontrager in Yoder, KS. They shared over 52 years of marriage before his death on August 31, 2010.

Fannie Mae was a faithful homemaker her entire life and was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. There were always cookies in the cookie jar and dessert at most meals, including breakfast. She paid special attention to the care given to her youngest daughter and was her full-time caregiver for over 30 years.

Most importantly to Fannie Mae was her faith in Jesus Christ and passing this faith to her children. Fannie Mae enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and serving in her church. She loved spending time with her family and family gatherings.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Fannie Mae was a lifelong member of Yoder Mennonite Church and then Journey Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her: children, Patricia (Gary) Martin, Stuarts Draft, VA;  Connie (Clare Goering) Stutzman, Hutchinson KS; Lyle (Tami) Bontrager, Wichita, KS; Gloria Bontrager, Inman, KS; and Terry (Angela) Bontrager, Wichita, KS; Grandchildren, Kari Martin (Chris) Hollinger, Karla (Brent) Sammann, Katie (Will) Harding, Tyler (Becca Pike) Stutzman, Taylor Stutzman, Trenton (Katie) Stutzman, Abbie(Scott) Kempin, Luke (Daniela) Bontrager, Libby Bontrager, Blake (Lainey) Bontrager, Drew Bontrager, Ben Bontrager, Emmy Bontrager and seven great-grandchildren; Sisters, Joyce (Larry) Parcell, Marilyn (John) Carmen, and Carolyn (Jim) Hartman; and sister in law, Barb Kaufman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Dick Kaufman; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Troyer; and son-in-law, Darrell Stutzman.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery.
