HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Those who want to get a taste of authentic Italian food in Hutchinson will soon be able to do that. Roma's Italian Restaurant, owned by Tony Demaj, plans to open between Oct. 1 and 10, depending on staffing and training. Demaj has been in the family restaurant business for more than 20 years.
He originally wanted to open up a restaurant in Lawrence but was directed toward Hutchinson instead.
"I found a few places and I didn't like it," said Demaj. "And the salesman up there, he sent me down here. He told me about this building and he told me about this town and that it doesn't have any Italian food and that's how I ended up here."
Roma's is located at 216 North Main St. in downtown Hutchinson. The building was previously occupied by Jillian's Italian Grill.
Roma's plans to serve everything from scratch, including their pasta. The restaurant will also serve chicken dishes and seafood.
"We do every order, order by order," Demaj said.
Demaj plans to have his wife run the front of the restaurant and he will run the kitchen. Roma's is accepting new applications for servers, hosts, and busboys but Demaj plans to internally hire his own kitchen staff.
Those interested in applying can call Demaj at (479) 692-3245 or come into the restaurant for an application. Roma's will be closed on Mondays and open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
