HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Administrator Randy Partington told Hutch Post that there has been quite a bit of work done on the new shooting range for the Reno County Sheriff's Office out by the Reno County Landfill.
"We're on phase one right now of the shooting range," Partington said. "The berms are up at the landfill, the concrete platform, I believe, has been laid. They are working on the awning that would go over where the shooting would take place, the canopy. That's phase one, that's in process right now."
The sheriff's office then wants to count the cost again before going forward with the rest of the project.
"I believe the sheriff has reached out to the contractors to get updated cost estimates for the training building that was going to be phase two, so that the sheriff and myself can then go to the County Commission sometime this spring with those updated numbers to see if the county commission wants to move forward with phase two."
The officers would be able to use the area for practice after phase one, but in order to have additional classes or host other groups, it would be best if they had the building to use.
