Open Door Health Services is preparing to celebrate a milestone year in 2027 as the Hutchinson-based ministry approaches its 25th anniversary of serving families throughout Reno County and surrounding communities.
Executive Director Kristi Busatti said the organization has spent the past 24 years providing free services to individuals facing unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Those services include pregnancy testing, sonograms, STI testing and treatment, prenatal education, parenting classes and programs designed specifically for fathers.
“Everything we do is free,” Busatti said. “We just like to love on the people in our community and help them through some unexpected, sometimes really challenging times and decisions.”
The ministry was founded after local residents recognized a need for support services for women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Busatti said the founders spent three years raising funds and planning before opening the organization’s doors.

Open Door operates a center at 315 W. First Ave. in Hutchinson and also utilizes a mobile unit to reach people who may face transportation barriers. The mobile unit regularly visits Hutchinson Community College during the academic year and participates in health fairs and community events across the region.
Busatti emphasized that the ministry’s work extends beyond pregnancy services. Open Door seeks to build long-term relationships with clients, offering continued support after a child is born. One of its programs provides monthly supply boxes containing diapers, wipes, clothing, formula and other essentials during a child’s first year.
“It’s just another opportunity for them to come back month after month, so that we can love on them and check on them and see how they’re doing,” Busatti said.
The organization is also preparing for several upcoming events. Its annual Women’s Luncheon is scheduled for June 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 1861 Club on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The event is free to attend and serves as a fundraiser to help support Open Door’s services. Guest speaker Tricia Gaggere, wife of Christ the Victor Church Pastor Kevin Gaggere, will discuss encouraging and mentoring young people in the community.
Open Door also plans to host a Family Festival on Aug. 4 at its facility, featuring inflatables, food, crafts and family activities. In addition, the ministry’s annual fall banquet will return Oct. 8 at the 1861 Club after a one-year hiatus.
Busatti said many residents remain unaware of the organization’s services despite its long history in Reno County.
“Sometimes people tell us we’re the best-kept secret here in Reno County,” she said. “Our mission is to empower families to make healthy, life-affirming choices.”
