James A. Casey 65, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his Newton residence. He was born February 2, 1958 in Newton, Kansas to James and Sonjia (Tharp) Casey. On October 22, 1983 he married Cindy Sue Weerts at Newton and she survives of the home.
James was a longtime local HVAC technician working for several local firms including Denny's Heating and Cooling. He enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed family time at Eastlake and Marion. He was a avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. James enjoyed fixing things around the house and helping others. His greatest joy was being a loving husband, father and grandfather and being their for his family however he could in times of need.
He is survived by his wife Cindy of the home, Mother Sonja Goering, step-father Jim Goering, son Aaron (Tiffany) Casey daughters Jaime Casey and her husband Chris Perales, Kristy Hermstein and her husband Jeremy Crites, two brothers Pat Casey and Dennis Casey and three sister Maureen Ray, Sue Casey and Darlene Chastain. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by his father, grandmother Elevera Hart, Nephews Eric Haugaard and Chris Casey, Grandparents Frank and Bertha Casey and Grandson Colby Crites.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. Visiation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Rosary at 7:00pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
