HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An occupant of a Hutchinson home was taken to the hospital after a fire Monday morning.
According to a release from the Hutchinson Fire Department, crews were sent to the 900 block of east 5th around 5 a.m. for a house on fire.
Heavy fire and smoke was coming out of the front of the residence. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but over 50% of the home was damaged and there was smoke damage throughout the home.
One person was taken to Hutchinson Regional due to smoke inhalation. No one else was hurt.
They are still working to determine a cause of the fire. Hutchinson Fire encourages families to practice their escape plans in case of a house fire.
Evergy, Kansas Gas, Hutchinson Police and Reno County EMS assisted at the scene.
