SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating another homicide in Wichita and have made an arrest.
At about 12:41 a.m. Sunday, police officers were in the area of 100 N. Washington in Wichita when they heard multiple gunshots nearby.
Officers immediately responded to the area. A Wichita Police Department Drone First Responder (DFR) drone was also launched to assist officers with real-time situational awareness and investigative support.
Officers found the victim in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Washington. He had gunshot wounds to his upper body. Officers began lifesaving measures until Sedgwick County EMS arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation indicates a disturbance occurred in the parking lot between a 24-year-old victim and the suspect before the shooting.
Through investigative follow-up, the use of Flock technology and the development of multiple leads, detectives and officers quickly identified, located and arrested the suspect identified in county booking records as 22-year-old Daniel Francisco Martinez. He is being held on requested charges of first-degree murder, according to online jail records.
Flock technology assisted detectives in tracking investigative leads and helped identify Martinez as the suspect.
Patrol Service Dog Uno also assisted officers at the scene by locating additional evidence connected to the investigation.
The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.
