KANSAS CITY— A jury on Tuesday found 31-year-old Fredrick Scott guilty of four counts of 1st Degree Murder and four counts of Armed Criminal Action, according to the Jackson County prosecutor's office, The jury returned not guilty verdicts on two counts of 1st Degree Murder and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Scott faces the required life in prison without the possibility of parole for each of the 1st Degree Murder convictions. For the Armed Criminal Action convictions, he faces no less than three years with no maximum limit.
The verdict concludes one of the longest-running criminal cases in Jackson County history.
Over a trial that spanned three weeks, prosecutors presented hundreds of pieces of evidence and called more than 70 witnesses.
"The families of these victims waited nine years to see justice served today," said Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson. "This case was complex, with six victims, dozens of witnesses, and hundreds of exhibits. The people who worked on this case did so across nearly a decade and they never stopped fighting for the families.
The trial team, Chief Trial Assistant Kristiane Bryant and Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Gerald Jackson and Jonah Hall worked through nights, weekends, and setback-after-setback, never wavering because they believed John, David, Timothy, Mike, Karen, and Steven were worth fighting for no matter how long it took.
