SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Some changes with the South Hutchinson City were announced Tuesday.
According to City Administrator Joseph Turner, two members of the City of South Hutchinson city council have announced their resignations this month because they have moved or plan to move out of the area.
Jeff Dovel announced his resignation at the conclusion of Monday’s council meeting. Tyler Graves announced his resignation at the June 7th council meeting.
“These resignations were discussed during my contract negotiations and were expected,” Turner said. “ Change is something we are all going to have to get comfortable with because the city is in a transitional period.”
One of the two council vacancies may be filled at the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 6th when Mayor Matt Nisly will seek to appoint Brian Garretson. Garretson was one of three individuals who filed to run for the council in the November election and since there are three seats up for election, it is very likely that he will be elected.
“Asking Brian to join the council early seemed like the most logical solution to filling one of the vacancies,” Nisly said. “I am looking forward to working with him to help our residents.”
Residents interested in being appointed to the council to fill the remaining vacancy are encouraged to contact Mayor Nisly at city hall or via email at: [email protected].
