
Harriett ‘Gail’ Wolfe, 79, of Hutchinson, died June 12, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born June 22, 1943, in Evansville, IN, to Julius Elmore and Anna (Fox) Scherzinger.
Gail graduated high school in New Harmony, IN. From a young age, she loved watching semi trucks pass by her small school house. When Gail grew up, she went to Los Angeles, CA, to become an over the road truck driver. She enjoyed driving trucks all over the United States.
Gail would spend her time reading science fiction novels and singing. She liked to listen to classical music. Gail loved to sing church hymns; she even recorded two of her own CDs. Gail adored cats; she would often call herself the ‘crazy cat lady.’ She was very funny. Gail had a collection of witty expressions that she would use. For example, if someone called her by ‘Harriett’ she would say to them, “I will take you to fist city.” Gail also loved the Colorado mountains.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel, Hutchinson.
On March 13, 1981, she married Merlyn Dean Wolfe in Las Vegas, NV. They shared over 36 years before his passing on August 6, 2017.
Gail is survived by: three step-daughters, Traci (Dennis) Board, Michelle (Jerry) Edson, and Shelly (Ed) Meza; sister-in-law, Patsy Scherzinger; nephew, Richard J. and Julie Scherzinger Jr. of Purcellville, VA; 6 grandchildren, one great niece and one great nephew.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; her three children, James ‘Jimmie’ Woodrow Hise, Elizabeth Anna Hise, and Christine Estell Hise; and brother, Richard J. Scherzinger Sr.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Calvary Chapel, 1400 N. Adams St., Hutchinson, KS 67501, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. A private family burial will take place in Buhler Municipal East Cemetery.
