HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees received a preliminary presentation on the 2022-23 Hutchinson Community College budget at its monthly board meeting.

Julie Blanton, Vice President of Finance and Operations, presented the college’s budget proposal at the meeting. The budget totals $68.3 million on total taxes levied of $14.7 million. The budget includes a mill levy set at 21.829, the same as the year before and its lowest level in at least 10 years. The hold in the mill levy is fueled by an expected increase in county valuations. With the mill levy staying the same, the school will not hit the revenue neutral rate.

Tuition is slated to remain consistent with 2021-22 while fees will increase by $2 per credit hour. The $10 per credit hour reduction for Reno County residents remains in place. The next step in the process will be a public hearing on Sept. 8 with final action to follow.

In addition, the board received an update on its Higher Learning Commission accreditation, specifically the college’s efforts to add Hutchinson Correctional Facility as an approved site due to an increase in its offerings.

The next meeting of the board will be on Thursday, Sept. 8. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Shears Technology Center Justice Theater. The public is invited to attend.
