HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Gas prices continue to tumble and the $3 mark is in sight. In fact, five Kansas counties already have averages below that mark as of Thursday.

"We've been on a pretty strong downward trend in terms of gas prices over the last almost two months now," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "In the past month, we've gone from an average of $3.51 a gallon to today's $3.15 a gallon across the state."

Area counties continue on either side of the state average.

Reno: $3.09

McPherson: $2.95

Harvey: $3.15

Sedgwick: $3.20

Kingman: $3.26

Pratt: $3.30

Stafford: $3.29

Rice: $3.32

"Demand has been fairly low over the past few weeks," Steward said. "Crude oil prices at the global level have stayed pretty stable to lower. That's when been driving our lower prices at the pumps."

WTI Crude was at $76.10 per barrel as of Thursday afternoon.

"With holiday travel weekends coming up for Thanksgiving and then the year end holidays, a lot of people will be traveling for those weekends and weeks. It's always a good thing to save a little bit of money at the pumps when you go to fill up."

Just a five and a half hour drive away is Wilbarger County in north Texas. Their average as of Thursday is just $2.63 a gallon.
