BUHLER, Kan. — The Buhler USD 313 Board of Education is seeking another member following the resignation of Chris Shank, marking the board’s second vacancy in less than a month.
Shank, who represented the district’s at-large Position 7 seat, resigned on Monday. His term was scheduled to expire in January 2028.
During the special meeting on Monday evening, the board selected Kristen Armstrong to fill the Position 5 vacancy created by the resignation of longtime board member Laura Meyer-Dick.
The board held a special meeting at Union Valley Elementary on Thursday, Aug. 27, and voted 6-0 to approve a vacancy resolution for Shank’s position. The resolution authorizes the district clerk to publish notice of the opening in the district’s legal newspaper.
Kansas law allows school boards to fill vacancies by appointment after approving a vacancy resolution and providing public notice.
USD 313 plans to publish its notice Thursday, Sept. 3. The board will hold another special meeting at a later date to interview candidates for the at-large seat.
