NEWTON, Kan. — Gear up for an amazing night of music along Sand Creek on the Security First Title stage in Athletic Park on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Admission is just a $5 button.
We have an awesome line-up of bands for Sand Creek Summer Daze this year, kicking off with The Stolen Winnebagos at 6 p.m., followed by Journey Tribute Band, Trial By Fire. In between, win cash for dressing up and dressing out as a pilot or flight attendant.
Opening act: The Stolen Winnebagos
The Stolen Winnebagos are a trio based out of Kansas City. With over a decade of experience playing together, they have entertained people at venues ranging from dive bars to amphitheaters. Over the years they have tried to differentiate themselves from the “typical” cover band experience by playing songs not normally done by cover bands, yet remaining upbeat and fun. Their diverse catalog includes a wide variety of songs from the 1950’s until today. It is not uncommon to hear classic rock, new wave, grunge, hip hop, punk, alternative, classic country, and modern rock in a single set of The Stolen Winnebagos.
In-between: costume contest
Get imaginative and create a pilot or flight attendant costume and you might be a winner of $100 cold cash. You can be creative as you want like Tom Cruise in a Navy fighter or as dapperly dressed as Denzel Washington. We will have the crowd vote on the best or most unique costume male and female. Saturday evening headliner: Trial by Fire
In 1996, arena rock superstars Journey put the band back together to record their tenth studio album, Trial by Fire. Shortly after the release of this reunion album lead singer and signature voice, Steve Perry injured himself while training for what was to be a high energy roadshow. With Steve Perry unable to perform, the Trial by Fire tour became “the tour that never happened”. Imagine if Steve Perry had never injured himself on that fateful day. What would the Trial by Fire tour look like? Flash forward to the present. TRIAL BY FIRE is born out of the hearts of five seasoned North Carolina based musicians who have decided to answer that question. It is their vision to bring that 1996 tour to Journey fans across the country; to embrace the sound and visuals of the Steve Perry era of Journey.
Prepare to let TRIAL BY FIRE take you back to an earlier day when lighters were held high, and you couldn’t help but sing along to such powerful choruses as “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Wheel in the Sky”, “Lights”, “Separate Ways” and “Faithfully.”
