Rice, McPherson counties receive CDBG grants

Mc PHERSON, Kan. —The cities of McPherson, Bushton and Lyons along with McPherson Co. will benefit from part of $17.6-million in Community Development Block Grants. 

The city of Lyons will receive $300-thousand to aid in housing rehabili9tation and demolition. McPherson County will get $250-thousand in funds to help pay for water system improvements, and the city of McPherson will get another $500-thousand to aid in funding housing rehabilitation and street improvements. Also, the city of Bushton in Rice County will get $530-thousand to help with water system improvements in that small community.

The awards are administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce and granted from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Small Cities CDBG program. Eligible CDBG public improvement projects help fund water and wastewater projects, housing rehabilitation and other community facilities and services.

The Small Cities CDBG program is one of the Community Development Division’s primary tools in supporting the state’s small, predominantly rural communities.
