RENO COUNTY — The Board of County Commissioners will consider an update to the county's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy at the board's Wednesday meeting.

According to agenda documents, this policy is to replace the current Motor Vehicle Safety Policy that was adopted in 2012 needs to be refreshed to cover all equipment operation. The current policy addresses cell phone usage while driving, driving under the influence, following traffic laws and safety laws, and training requirements.

The new policy does not change the guidelines and requirements of the current policy, but does expand on the expectations for safely operating any motor vehicle during the course of business. This policy is expanded to include safe operation in towing and trailers, license validity, and accident reporting requirements.

The policy update comes on the heels of an accident that occurred with Reno County Public Works employees that resulted in the death of an employee in August.

The Board of County Commissioners meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Veterans Room of the Reno County Courthouse.
