UPDATE: KHP names Reno Co. Public Works employee killed, others injured

RENO COUNTY— The Kansas Highway Patrol has released the names of the Reno County Public Works employees involved in an accident on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 EZ Liner Truck driven by 25-year-old Melvin Joseph Hoyle of South Hutchinson was eastbound on Pretty Prairie Road just east of High Point Road, when the truck traveled off of the roadway to the right. The driver overcorrected and re-entered the roadway.  The driver overcorrected again and the truck traveled off the road just East of High Point Road.

The truck began to re-enter the roadway again and rolled. 

A passenger David Brian Serviss, 49 of Arlington, was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.

EMS transported Hoyle to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis. EMS transported passenger Casey Alan Pattinson, 35, Buhler, to Wesley Medical Center and passenger Dale DeLane Baker, 28, Buhler, to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County deeply regrets to announce that a Reno County Public Works Department vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle accident northwest of Pretty Prairie today, August 14, 2024, causing a fatality of an employee and serious injuries to three other employees.

Reno County is working with the Kansas Highway Patrol as they investigate the accident.

The Reno County Public Works Department will be closed the rest of week and will reopen on Monday, August 19, 2024. The Reno County Planning Commission will hold their meeting tomorrow evening at 4:30 p.m. in the Reno County Public Works Department building, 600 Scott Blvd, South Hutchinson.
