JACKSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting that left two dead.
Just after 3:30pm Friday, police were dispatched to a shooting the 1300 Block of N. Lynn Street in the city of Independence, according to a media release.
Several callers to 911 advising they were hearing gunshots in the area. First responders located two gunshot victims at a residence, who were determined to be deceased.
An area check for the suspect commenced and area schools were placed on lockdown as precaution. The person believed to be the suspect, who was also shot, was later taken into custody in the area. Police are not looking for any additional individuals. This case remains under investigation as Detectives work to determine the circumstances around the shooting. Police have not released names of the victim or suspect.
