HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Torry Ericson is a Certified Application Counselor with Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System and he wants to be sure as many people as are eligible that would save money can do so with the ACA Marketplace. It's free to talk to him.
"Open enrollment is Nov. 1, so it's already started," Ericson said. "It goes through Jan. 15. However, if you want your coverage to go into effect on January 1, 2023, we would have to see you before December 31."
It depends on which county you live in how many plans are available to you on the Marketplace.
"It's just not Reno County that we serve," Ericson said. "We serve the surrounding communities, as well. What we do first, we have this great estimator tool that we look at. We pull that up and we get all of the information that we need, their expected income for the year, how many are in the household, if they are married, if they have kids. Then, that allows us to pull all of the plans they are eligible for based on all of that information, with the tax credits that are provided by the government, which in turn, gives them their monthly premium."
Most people who have insurance through their employer are not eligible for the Marketplace, but if your premium costs more than 10% of your income, you should call and ask, because you might have an exception for employer-provided insurance not being affordable.
"We encourage people to get a hold of us if they question it," Ericson said. "We do have that estimator tool like I mentioned earlier. That will allow us to sit down with them and break it down for them to see if they do qualify or not."
