Scammers trying again in Reno County

Posted Dec 16, 2022 11:18 AM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County Sheriff's Office received five phone calls on Thursday from people saying that they received a phone call from the Reno County Sheriff's Office, from a person identifying themselves as Captain Lutz, and telling people that they have a warrant in Reno County. These callers are then being told they need to pay a large sum of money to pay the warrant off.

"These are, of course, scams," the Sheriff's Office said. "Unfortunately, in our world there are people who would rather cheat or steal from others instead of make an honest living."

No law enforcement office will call you and require you to give them money over the phone. Furthermore, the Sheriff's Office will never accept payment in the form of a Google, Apple, Amazon or any other type of card.

If you are ever concerned that you may not be talking to a legitimate Reno County Sheriff's Deputy, hang up immediately and you can call the Sheriff's office back at (620) 694-2735 during business hours and they will work to assist you.
